MUSICAL TALENT AT HAACHT BREWERY
In 1920, several of Haacht Brewery’s employees established the brass band ‘Vrijheid en Vermaak’ (Fun and Freedom). They didn’t need long to become a true success story in Haacht and the surrounding areas. The brass band always had at least fifty members.
All musicians were also part of a bass brand in the neighboring villages, with resulted in a highly musical level of ‘Vrijheid en Vermaak’. It quickly caused the reputation and popularity of the brass band to grow. They were always warmly welcomed at festivities and music festivals, with performances in Brussels and even northern France. After fifty years, they even received a royal title: ‘Royal brass band’.
Unfortunately, all beautiful songs come to an end; the typical folklore of brass bands playing in the streets disappeared over the years. In the late eighties, brass band ‘Vrijheid en Vermaak’ was discontinued. But that doesn’t mean there’s no longer any music in Haacht Brewery. Many of our current employees are still a part of brass bands or harmony orchestras, or are DJs.
