Three Haacht Brewery beers receive World Beer Awards
Mystic Cherry named ‘best fruit beer of the world’
SUPER 8 Export and SUPER 8 Saison get national recognition
Three Haacht Brewery beers have received awards at the World Beer Awards. Mystic Cherry was named best beer in the ‘fruit & vegetable’ category and is still in the running for the title of best ‘flavoured’ beer in general. SUPER 8 Export became Belgian Winner in the category ‘Helles/Münchner’, and SUPER 8 Saison won Belgian silver in the category ‘Bière De Garde / Saison’. These last two beers belong to the young SUPER 8 range, which revives existing, well-known beer styles by giving them a special twist.
After winning the title of Belgian Winner in the ‘fruit & vegetable’ style, Mystic Cherry also beat the other country winners in this style in the international competition. On September 20, all international style winners will compete in their main categories, which means that Mystic Cherry is still in the running for the title of the world’s best ‘flavoured’ beer.
Boudewijn van der Kelen, marketing director at Haacht Brewery: “The World Beer Awards are among the most prestigious beer awards in the world. Haacht receiving no less than three awards is a great acknowledgement of our craftmanship. The national awards for our two SUPER 8 beers underline that this unique and successful product range is appreciated by experts. And receiving an international award for Mystic Cherry, one of our established brands, clearly demonstrates that our daring choice to brew this beer based on wheat beer and with 25 percent cherry juice was the right one.”
With these awards, Haacht Brewery is adding three international acknowledgements to its already impressive trophy cabinet. Earlier this year, Tongerlo NOX won gold at the Beer & Whisky Fair in Goteborg, Sweden. In November of last year, SUPER 8 IPA and Primus received medals at the Brussels Beer Challenge and at the WBA 2017 SUPER 8 Blanche was named best ‘Belgian style wheat beer’ of Belgium.
